Forces in a Plane



 
In this section you will learn how to take a 2D force, or any vector and break it in two components. You will learn the Triangle Rule and the Parallelogram Law to do this. In statics these two techniques are really the same but given two different names.

Although you will learn how to break the force vectors into any axes, but in statics you will almost always find it convenient to do this in a cartesian coordinate system.
