Moment of a Force about a Point



 
In statics there are two very important skills you must have:
  1) Setting sum of the forces equals zero.
  2) Setting sum of the moments equal to zero.

The above is what we call "statics equilibrium". In this chapter we won't be setting the moments equal to zero as that will be done in the next chapter. In this section we are concentrating on how to calculate the moment about a point.

In this section you will learn how to find moments using the cross product and also using a determinate.

In a later section we will learn how to take moments about lines rather than points as we are in this section.
